Marina Edge Work Underway
While one team of workers is excavating the Hoakalei Marina, another team is working on the marina’s edge.
Highly specialized crews are carefully placing more than 41,000 tons of granite armor stones along the spending beach opposite the future entrance channel.
The armor stone will protect the edges from erosion and help absorb wave energy. When the second shipment of stone arrives, they will place an additional 30,000 tons of granite on either side of the marina’s entrance. The edge treatment work is expected to be finished this fall.
Excavation of the marina is about 85% complete. The contractor is using yellow silt curtains to barricade the active work area from the completed sections to allow crews to “vacuum” the marina to remove silt. This process will continue until work on the entrance channel gets underway in the coming years.
