Excitement at Hoakalei
Hundreds turned out to watch Ernie Els take a ceremonial swing in honor of the blessing of his first signature design in Hawaii at Hoakalei Country Club. "It was a real pleasure for me to attend the Hoakalei official opening in January," said Els. "I think it was a great success and everyone I spoke to said they had a great time." Stormy weather that had drenched the course in the days and weeks leading up to the opening gave way to blue skies just in time to allow the long-awaited event to take place.
Kahu Kauila Clark performed the traditional hawaiian blessing, and the Kamauu ohana greeted guests with a gift of hula. Area leaders had a gift of their own to present to Haseko and Els - Mayor Mufi Hannemann proclaimed January 12 "Hoakalei Country Club Day," and City Council Chair Todd Apo, Rep. Kymberly Pine and Sen. Will Espero each presented certificates to Haseko and Els.
