New Entry Feature Planned
It has been an amazing 10 years since the first home was sold in Ocean Pointe. As Haseko moves forward with the development of Hoakalei Resort, the company will be refreshing the look and feel of the entry at Fort Weaver Road and Keone'ula Boulevard. The redesigned entry will better define the development going forward and reinforce the high standards Ocean Pointe residents are accustomed to.
Maintenance issues were also a factor in the timing of this change. The Board of Water Supply recently informed Haseko that the entry's water feature had developed a significant leak. Rather than waste water, Haseko decided to turn it off. The sailboat sculpture was also removed because it had become worn and rusty after being exposed to the elements for a decade. Repair of the water feature would have cost more than redesigning the entire entry, and previous problems with the water feature convinced the company that it would be better to make the change now. Although Haseko currently pas for all repair and maintenance of the entry, that financial responsibility will eventually be turned over to the Association - meaning residents will bear that cost via their maintenance fees.
So, what kinds of changes are planned? First, the Hibiscus hedge in the center median strip along Keone'ula from Fort Weaver Road to Kaileole'a Driver will be removed and replaced with grass to provide a more harmonious look and feel with the other medians along Keone'ula.
The water feature will be filled in to create a welcoming gentry sloped field of grass. More plants, trees and shrubs will be added toward the back of the entry with new lighting. This will provide better screening of the homes behind and create a lush backdrop for the entry. A low moss rock wall with community signage will be constructed closer to the sidewalk.
All-in-all, the redesign will present an understated yet clearly distinguished atmosphere with a strong sense of place to welcome current and future residents to the community. Over the coming months, please use caution and abide by all constructions signs as the work commences.
