Seagull School's Ocean Pointe Campus Opens
Ocean Pointe now has a brand new First School in the neighborhood. Seagull School’s Ocean Pointe campus opened their doors on February 1 with an enrollment of 70 children. For the first day of school, parents were invited to stay and explore the campus with their children. Activities included singing nursery rhymes, learning the chicken dance, and a trip to the nearby sandbox.
"This new school meets the 'Ewa Beach community's urgent need for childcare," said Chuck Larson, executive director of Seagull Schools. "It will provide an excellent learning environment for children of working parents," he added.
The school was built on 1.25 acres of land donated by Haseko. It has the ability to be one of the largest childcare facilities on Oahu, and also offers extended hours for parents that have a long commute from work.
"Haseko laid the foundation for this school with its donation of land and $200,000," said Larson. "Other donations that made the school become a reality came from private foundations and individual contributors, the state of Hawai'i, and a loan from the U.S. Department of Agriculture," he added.
Enrollment is capped at 180 children, and additional staff will be hired as the student population grows. Anyone interested may call the school directly at 689-6021.
All are welcome to visit the new campus on Saturday, March 3, 2007 between 11am and 12pm for its “Blessing Day”.
